When do I come off my meal plan?

Meal plans can be a very helpful part of recovery. They help you get into a routine with eating that helps your body get enough nutrition and nourishment so it starts to feel safe. If you have been undereating, eating erratically or binge eating it can leave your body unsure of when it will get it's next meal or snack. That can mean it goes into amber or even red alert. In short it doesn't function properly.

So that meal plan is useful. Does it mean you have to stick to it full time all the time, forever? No. I actually say that the meal plan is your bare bones, so at any time you can eat more than is on there. It is a guide and not a prescription. Then, once you are established in your recovery and feel safer with your eating then you can start to experiment with eating differently. That may be at different times, with different foods.

Personally (and I know this is true for so many others I have worked with), my body likes routine. It tells me it is hungry around the same time most days and it likes a certain amount at each eating time. So I mainly do eat the same amounts at around the same times. But I can eat differently if I want to or need to.

So your maintenance meal plan for life may be 3 meals, 3 snacks a day and that is totally normal and fine! It may be different. You get to work this out when the time comes and I'm very happy to guide you.

Sending positive vibes for your week ahead,

So much love,

Priya xxxxx

Welcome to your top Nutrition News, Recipes and Tips. Example link Welcome 2024 seems to have started off with lots of misinformation and diet fads. I've started a new series on Instagram busting these fad diet myths. These fad diets are so harmful! It can be even harder when people who are medical doctors, have a PhD or have a biochemistry degree are pushing these. Remember though that a dietitian is the only legally protected nutrition professional. Anyone who is selling a cure-all pill or...

The Recovery Tribe Food Freedom Fighters and Eating Disorder Recovery. Community, it's a bit of a buzz word I know but it is also so very key. As humans beings we were not designed to be on our own in the good times and in the hard times. I have spoken to so many people in the last 2 weeks who have told me how isolated they feel. How no-one really seems to understand them and they just want connection. So I want to suggest that if that is you, you start looking to create community. I know it...
